Lisa Simpson from Middelton Ross & Arnott has created this worthwhile initiative: 

"I'm calling this funding project the "COLD WAR". I have been so touched by some recent encounters with homeless people that I feel moved to do something about it. I can barely sleep at night knowing that there are people sleeping on the streets in these consistent sub-zero temperatures. I've made appeals to several retailers and local businesses but so far to no avail, there is too much procrastination and these people are freezing now. I guess it's not a popular cause as many of the homeless have mental health and addiction problems, whatever their stories, they are human beings and they deserve our compassion and empathy, many of us could end up in their situation in the blink of an eye. I'm not qualified to help with their issues but I can at least try to help them keep them warm and dry, a basic human need. These poor folks are fighting a daily war against the cold, I want to put together some survival packs in order that they can have some amount of comfort. I have costed this out to £100 per pack and if I can raise enough for 20 packs as quickly as I can, I will get them distributed as quickly as I can. The packs will include the following items:

Self inflating mattress, waterproofs, Warm socks, gloves, hat, flask, tarpaulin, hand warmers, thermal underwear, foil sheet, poncho, backpack, torch, paper, pens, wet wipes, toothpaste & brush, feminine hygiene products, deodorant and the icing on the cake would be a small pop up tent.
