Thurso is a town (population approx 8,000) on the north coast of the Caithness area. The town has a range of attractions including the Castle and Gardens of Mey and the Caithness Horizons museum, it is also known as a world class surf location. It also benefits from a range of pubs and restaurants. Inverness is roughly a 2 hour drive south (via the A9). The town is the terminal station on the Inverness to Thurso Railway line. It is also an important ferry port with ferries to Orkney.
